Jim is an outstanding realtor to work with. I felt he had my best interest at heart when looking at properties. When I did find a home he walked me through the whole closing process. My Story
Why I Serve Northwest Arkansas
Northwest Arkansas has been home throughout every chapter of my life — from growing up in Winslow and Fayetteville, to serving more than 40 years in the United States Navy and federal civil service, and ultimately returning home to help buyers and sellers across the region.
In this short video, I share a little about my background, why I chose real estate after retirement, and the philosophy that continues to guide how I serve clients across Northwest Arkansas today.
Northwest Arkansas Roots
I grew up working on a chicken and cattle farm in Winslow and helping with my Grandfather’s tomato farm before later moving to Fayetteville, where Northwest Arkansas began shaping the values that still guide me today — hard work, integrity, service, and community.
When I joined the United States Navy, Northwest Arkansas never stopped being home. Throughout more than 40 years of military and civil service, NWA remained the place my family and I returned to between duty stations, deployments, and career transitions. Even while serving in the Washington, D.C. area, this region remained our anchor.
Over the years, I watched Northwest Arkansas transform from a collection of growing communities into one of the most dynamic and sought-after regions in the country. Each return home brought new neighborhoods, expanding infrastructure, thriving local businesses, and growing opportunities — while still maintaining the sense of community that makes this area special.
Northwest Arkansas also became home for the next generation of our family. My daughters met their husbands here, further deepening our family’s connection to the region and reinforcing why this community has always meant so much to us.
After retiring from federal civil service in the Washington, D.C. area, returning permanently to Northwest Arkansas felt like coming full circle. Today, I help buyers and sellers navigate the same communities that have shaped my family’s story for decades.
Navy and Federal Leadership
My professional career began when I enlisted in the United States Navy, starting a journey of service and leadership that would span more than 40 years across both military and federal civilian roles.
Over the course of my Navy career, I progressed through the enlisted ranks before earning a commission as a Chief Warrant Officer and later serving as a Limited Duty Officer. Those experiences provided opportunities to lead complex programs, manage large-scale operations, and help Sailors and their families navigate some of the most important transitions of their lives.
During one assignment aboard USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70), I led the relocation of nearly 100 military families from across the country to Hawaii — an experience that gave me firsthand insight into the challenges families face during major life transitions and relocations.
Later, while assigned to the Pentagon Operations Department during the events of September 11, 2001, I helped support renovation and operational recovery efforts for Navy Operations following the attack. Those experiences reinforced the importance of steady leadership, clear communication, and helping people navigate uncertainty during difficult transitions.
As a senior program manager, I led and transformed military pay, personnel, and relocation programs supporting service members around the world. Much of my work focused on improving systems and processes that directly impacted families during transfers, deployments, career changes, and relocations — experiences that gave me firsthand insight into the logistical and emotional challenges that major life transitions can create.
Following my military service, I continued serving as a senior Navy civilian in the Washington, D.C. area, including leadership roles as Deputy Director and Acting Director for Navy Installations Total Force Manpower. In those positions, I helped oversee human resources programs and workforce initiatives supporting Navy installations and personnel across the enterprise.
Throughout both my military and civilian careers, the foundation of my leadership approach remained the same: clear communication, thoughtful decision-making, accountability, and putting people first. Those same principles continue to guide how I serve my real estate clients today.
Why Real Estate
After retiring from military and federal service, I wanted to continue working in a profession centered on helping people navigate important life transitions. Real estate became a natural fit because buying or selling a home is often one of the most significant — and stressful — decisions a family will make.
Having personally experienced multiple relocations, career moves, and transitions throughout my Navy and civilian career, I understand how overwhelming the process can sometimes feel. I also understand the importance of having someone provide clear communication, steady guidance, and a proven process during uncertain moments.
My approach to real estate is built on helping clients make informed, confident decisions rather than pressured ones. Whether working with first-time buyers, relocating families, military veterans, or homeowners preparing to sell, I focus on education, strategy, and long-term goals so clients fully understand their options and feel supported throughout the process.
I believe strong real estate guidance should bring clarity and stability to what can otherwise feel like a stressful experience. That means being responsive, honest, prepared, and committed to protecting my clients’ best interests every step of the way.
For me, real estate is ultimately still about service — helping people move confidently into the next chapter of their lives while staying true to a principle that has guided me throughout my career:
“Do the right thing for the right reasons.”
Community Leadership and Service
Service has always been an important part of my life and continues to shape how I approach both real estate and community involvement throughout Northwest Arkansas.
I currently serve as President of the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), where I work alongside other veterans and community leaders to support military families, advocate for veterans, and strengthen connections within our local community.
In addition to my leadership with MOAA, I regularly participate in Veterans Resource Fairs and community outreach efforts focused on helping veterans and families access information, support services, and financial resources. I also provide free financial coaching and volunteer assistance to individuals and families working to improve their financial confidence and long-term planning.
These experiences continue to reinforce the importance of listening carefully, communicating clearly, and helping people navigate important decisions with confidence and trust.
Whether serving clients in real estate or supporting the community through volunteer efforts, my focus remains the same: helping people move forward with clarity, confidence, and the right guidance for their unique situation.
